Modern Life is Dull   /   無 聊 現 代 生 活

31. Mar - 04. Apr 2016
NON Berlin, Asia Contemporary Art Platform
chausseestr. 11 (entrance via Tiekstr) 10115 Berlin, Germany
opening on 31. Mar at 19:00

Musquiqui Chihying, within the framework of the exhibition “Modern Life is Dull,” presents three video and installation pieces: The Alp, The Jog, and The Toyota. Through these works, the artist humorously delves into the subtle mental and behavioural patterns that shape our everyday lives. By applying Michel de Certeau’s concept of the "tactics of everyday life," Chihying seeks to challenge the ingrained behavioural norms of the capitalist system. The artist explains, “The tactics of everyday life is an art of the weakling, allowing one to navigate and subtly subvert dominant power structures in a circuitous manner. My aim is to highlight the capitalist nature embedded within the human life cycle and guide the audience to reconsider the habits moulded by systemic strategies and societal norms.”

The Asian Art Show 2016, organised by NON Berlin, aims to draw attention to the work of contemporary Asian artists. Each week, a different artist is featured at NON Berlin, providing them with a dedicated space to showcase their creations. This week, we are pleased to present Taiwanese artist Musquiqui Chihying’s exhibition, Modern Life is Dull. Please join us for the vernissage on Thursday, 31st March at 7 pm. The series of works will remain on display until Monday, 4th April.

NON Berlin

NON is a project space founded by video artist Chan Sook Choi and architect Ido Shin. As Koreans living in Berlin since 2001, since the very beginning they have been interested in seeking a kind of universal identity spanning the various backgrounds of Berlin based contemporary artists in order to examine the question of identity as it is often perceived from the outside; according to gender, nationality and cultural milieu.
