The Corolla was first introduced by the Japanese automotive manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation (トヨタ自動車株式会社) in 1966 as a series of compact cars. With over 40 million Corollas sold to date, it is one of the best-selling car models in the world. Since 1980, when Corollas were first imported to Taiwan, the model has dominated the Taiwanese automotive market for years, becoming a generational symbol embedded in the memories of its people. Coincidentally, the artist's father also owns a Corolla Generation E100, which has always been the most important ‘transport tool’ for their family. It takes them to the beach, the mountains, and accompanies them on all kinds of adventures.

However, like other typical Asian metropolises, Taipei, the city where the artist's father lives—suffers from an excessive number of vehicles and a lack of parking spaces. The exhausting search for a place to park has become a nightmare after all their wonderful trips, resulting in the artist's father feeling pressured every time they use his Corolla. In the work The Toyota, the artist used inflatable material to recreate a model of their father’s car: an inflatable dummy Toyota Corolla E100 that can be easily folded and stored in a boot or rapidly deployed to occupy a parking space. Here, the inflatable car functions as an embodiment of the original, serving as an agent to assert ownership.
