Does water have memory? How does the sea respond to history? Inspired by the poetry of Robin Coste Lewis and Huang Zunxian, The Sallow Sea explores the relationship between memory, faith, migration, and islands through immersive documentary footage. It weaves together sensory experiences of coolies crossing terraqueous spaces and seeks to explore whether the Afrasian Sea can inscribe a double consciousness and modernity upon Asia. This work is co-authored and produced by artist-researchers Lou Mo and Musquiqui Chihying.
